Precision-Engineered Heat Pump Installation

All-electric. Ultra-efficient. Built for the future.

At Green Gas & Energy, we install air source heat pump (ASHP) systems that work — properly. Whether you're switching from gas or upgrading your home to low-carbon heating, we design and deliver fully electric systems that are reliable, smart, and incredibly efficient. Serving Newcastle, Jarrow, South Tyneside and the wider North East.

What Is an Air Source Heat Pump?

Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) are fully electric systems that extract heat from the air outside and use it to warm your home and hot water. Even when it feels cold out, there’s still energy in the air that a heat pump can capture — using a refrigerant cycle similar to a fridge, but in reverse.

They're widely used across Europe and Scandinavia, and ASHPs are now a proven, mature technology here in the UK too. When installed correctly, they offer:

  • Low carbon, sustainable heating

  • Impressive energy efficiency (up to 300%+)

  • Reliable year-round comfort

Why Choose an ASHP from Green Gas & Energy?

✅ Lower running costs
ASHPs are up to 3x more efficient than traditional boilers, delivering more heat per unit of electricity.

✅ Low carbon heating
Ideal for homes looking to cut emissions and futureproof against rising gas prices.

✅ Expertly designed, not just installed
We don’t just hang heat pumps on brackets and hope for the best. Every system is thoughtfully designed and engineered to perform at its best, tailored to your home’s specific needs and layout.

✅ Smart, zoned control
Weather-compensated, load-aware systems that adapt to your home and lifestyle.

✅ Accredited & trusted
We’re fully qualified in ASHP installation and low-temperature heating design. And we genuinely care about getting it right.

Do ASHPs Even Work?

You’ve probably heard the gossip:

❌ "They only work in new builds"

❌ "You need underfloor heating or it’s pointless"

❌ "They don’t work when it’s cold"

❌ "Aren’t they really noisy?"

❌ "You need loads of space"

❌ "They cost a fortune to run"

Let’s be honest — heat pumps have a PR problem. And part of that comes from bad installs — systems fitted by installers who may be brilliant gas engineers, but lack the up-to-date knowledge in:

  • 🔍 Heat loss calculations

  • 📏 Pipe sizing

  • 🔁 System balancing

  • 🌡️ Flow temperature optimisation

When those skills are missing, the result is poor performance — and a disappointed customer. That’s how myths spread.

But when designed properly, heat pumps absolutely work — even in older, less insulated homes. In fact, the most efficient ASHP system we've ever installed has a SCOP (Seasonal Coefficient of Performance) of 4.2 — meaning it produces over 4 times as much heat energy as it uses in electricity. That’s not just efficient — that’s exceptional.

And let’s put the cold weather argument to bed. If heat pumps can reliably heat homes in Scandinavia, where winters are darker and colder than ours, they can certainly handle a British January. (We'll be adding a photo here of one humming away happily outside a snow-covered cabin.)

Here's the truth:

They work in the cold — modern ASHPs are designed to perform in UK winters, even below freezing

They’re quiet — many models are no louder than a fridge at 5 metres

You don’t need a huge garden — compact units suit most UK homes

Radiators are fine — you don’t need underfloor heating to make it work

They cost less to run — when installed as part of a well-designed system

ASHPs work best when the home and system are treated as one. That’s where we come in — designing with flow temperatures, insulation, radiators and controls in mind.

ASHP Design & Installation: It’s a Bit of a Process

Let’s be honest: ASHP installation isn’t a quick. And that’s a good thing.

We treat it like what it is — a whole-home engineering project, covering both heating and hot water design:

  • 📊 Heat loss calculations room by room

  • 🔄 Radiator assessments & upgrades where needed

  • 🛋️ Insulation and flow temperature matching

  • 🚿 Hot water demand analysis, including cylinder sizing and recovery time

  • 🦠 Legionella protection via scheduled cylinder anti-legionnaires cycles

  • ⚖️ System balancing for zoned control and comfort

  • 🤖 Smart controls setup with user training

We love this stuff. It’s not fast, but it’s fascinating. And when it’s done right, you feel the results every time the heating comes on.

Heat pumps don’t forgive shortcuts. That’s why we don’t take any. We’re often called in to fix systems that were never designed properly to begin with — rushed jobs by installers who skipped the calculations or guessed the pipework.

There are no shortcuts in heat pump installation. Do it right the first time, or you’ll end up doing it twice
